Staff Appreciation Luncheons
The North Star PTA sponsors staff appreciation events during the school year, with the generous donations of parents. Staff appreciation events have been scheduled for:
8/21/17, 12/1/17, 3/29/18, and 5/8/18.
In addition to faulty staff appreciation events the PTA will be hosting:
Cafeteria Staff Appreciation Coffee - 5/4/2018; and
Administrative Staff and Custodians Appreciation Lunch - date to be determined
Look for notices in the weekly enews to contribute, or you can send in a cash donation at any time via the school marked to the attention of North Star PTA (Staff Appreciation). You can also donate online via Cheddar up.
The best way to have a voice in PTA activities, fund raising and planning is to attend our meetings. While everyone is welcome to attend the meetings, only PTA members may vote on official PTA business. Be sure to join the PTA - complete this form and send in completed with payment to the PTA, or join online. All PTA meetings take place in North Star's cafeteria, and this year all people attending will be entered into a raffle to be drawn the following day during school announcements.
Agendas will be publicized in advance of each meeting.
9/18, 10/16, 12/4, 1/22, 2/26, 3/26, 4/16, 5/21
Designed to enhance a quality arts education, the Reflections Program is a national PTA program that provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Each fall, students have a chance to submit theme ideas for future years (this is a separate contest). Then they can submit entries in various categories for the current year's theme. The Reflections theme for 2017-2018 is "Within Reach".
The PTA's Spirit Fest fund raising event kicks off our fund raising efforts for the new school year. This year, our fundraising goal is to raise money for the outdoor classroom and other school activities at North Star.
Thursday October 5 (rain date 10/13)
Students and teachers wear their North Star blue and green to show their school spirit.
9/29, 10/27, 11/17, 1/25, 2/23, 3/23, 4/26, 5/25
The Scholastic Book Fair is a great way to support the PTA and your child's love of reading and learning at the same time. Children visit the book fair during the week of December 4 - 8th, evening hours on 12/4 in place of their gym classes. They have a chance to browse the Scholastic Book selection and volunteers are available to help them create a wish list and make purchases. A portion of our book fair proceeds go towards purchasing new books for the North Star library. While parents are welcome to visit the book fair during the school day, they will also have a chance to visit the evening of December 5, when we'll extend the book fair hours.
The PTA sponsors several events throughout the year that give you time to have fun with your family and with the North Star family.
- Join us on Friday October 27 for our popular Fall Family Dance Party. We'll have a DJ, pizza, snacks and water. Costumes are optional.
- Skate night: Family Skate Night at Christina Skate Rink is scheduled for Sunday January 14, 5:15-7:15pm. Come and join the North Star community for this fun social event.
- Bingo Night: Join us on Thursday February 15, 5:00-7:00pm, to play Bingo. A chance to win prizes and spend time with family and friends.
Family Carnival and Basket Auction
Our biggest fundraising event of the school year is scheduled for Friday March 23, but takes months of planning. Volunteers from each class assemble themed baskets for the auction. Basket preview week March 19-23 gives students and parents the opportunity to purchase tickets to win the baskets. Carnival night features the last chance to buy basket auction tickets, games, photo booth, face painting, silent auction and culminates with the drawing for the basket winners.
Field Day Friday May 18 (rain date Friday June 1) features a circuit of fun physical fitness challenges and is another chance to display North Star spirit.
We are excited to offer Tile Night. If you look around North Star, you will see decorated tiles by families who used to be at North Star. We would love to add to the tiles. Look for dates to be announced to bring your family to decorate a tile(s).
