Upcoming Events

Parent Volunteer Training
The next Parent Volunteer Training Workshop will be held in the cafeteria on Monday, November 24 at 9:15am.
In addition, the workshop will be offered at the conclusion of all PTA meetings throughout the year.  The PTA meeting schedule is as follows:
12/9/14 @ 9:15am
1/26/15 @ 7:00pm
2/23/15 @ 7:00pm
4/14/15 @ 9:15am
5/18/15 @ 7:00pm

Volunteers who will be working with small groups or individual students are required to attend a training workshop. This training is not required for parents who will be Mystery Readers readers and read-around volunteers. Volunteers for PTA-sponsored events do not require this training unless otherwise specified.

The PTA Launch Program (Learning and Understanding New Challenges) is an after school program now open to students in 2nd - 5th grade.  The Launch Program is committed to offering various programs which enhance a child's critical and creative thinking, concentration, self-discipline, and accurate decision making. Contact Linda Walck with questions.  Click here to find out more and to register. For information on need-based scholarships, please contact Karin Jakubowski

PTA ByLaws
The PTA Bylaws have been updated for approval at the December 9th PTA meeting. Please contact Julie Alvarez with any questions or comments

Send a SMILE
The North Star Express is now up and running!
This is an internal postal system at our school.   Parents can write letters to their children and drop them in the mailbox located at the entrance of our school office.  A binder with supplies and further instructions is located in the school entryway. Our 3rd graders, along with parent volunteers, act as our postal staff.  Volunteer here.

Mrs. Minchini needs help checking books in and out, helping children find books, shelving books, doing inventory and helping organize the library.  Sign Up here. You must complete the school's mandatory parent volunteer training at a PTA meeting prior to volunteering at the library.

Early Dismissal/Absence Notes
Please help our office staff keep track of early dismissals and absences by using this handy form letter to communicate with them.

Credit Card Donations to PTA
In order to reduce overhead costs, the PTA is switching to using Network for Good exclusively for credit card gifts. Set up your account here, and you can make gifts to the PTA online all year long.

If you've got great photos of school and community events or you and your friends just having fun, we'd like to see them. Our photographers can't be everywhere. Help us get as many photos as possible to create a terrific book everyone will want to have.
We have evening hours scheduled for Thursday November 20 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Volunteers are still needed for the Friday morning shift.

Odyssey of the Mind teams are forming now - there is still room on problem 3 and 5 teams. You can read more about these programs and find forms to register here.

Our collection drive for Stockings for Soldiers runs through November 20. North Star students have already donated more than 800 items! Donate toothbrushes, toothpaste (travel size preferred), floss, gently used CDs, paperback books (no romance novels), DVD movies, hot cocoa packets. There are collection bins in the vestibule. Read more about this and other North Star community service projects here.

The North Star Community will have a food drive during the week of November 17-21. Our goal is to have each homeroom donate a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Remember to shop at Zingo's, and the NSPTA will receive 1% of your receipt total.

Thank you so much to all who have placed an order for keepsakes, we had amazing participation this year. Our North Star Gallery closed on Nov. 17th. Keepsakes will be delivered to school on December 8th.
More info to come about dates to pick-up fragile orders. If you missed the deadline or wish to place another order, the Gallery will reopen in December for delivery at the end of January. Thank you again for your generous contribution to our North Star PTA Art Fundraiser! Email questions to Lucie Gonneville
