Join the North Star PTA!
The North Star PTA supports our school by providing funds for instructional materials, school improvement projects, family activities and various educational programs. Members are required to re-enroll each year in order to stay active in the PTA. Membership is $10 for one adult and $15 for two adults. Help us achieve 100% participation! Complete this form to join.
Use this link to make a credit card or Paypal payment. Please be sure to designate the PTA activity or function (such as Staff Appreciation) so we can apply your gift appropriately. Thank You!
North Star Elementary School is a family of learners dedicated to nurturing the mind, body and spirit of each child by encouraging intellectual growth, developing character, and instilling a love of learning.
At North Star we are committed to creating a caring, nurturing environment, where all children achieve to their fullest potential, as they are actively engaged in exemplary instruction tailored to individual needs.
The North Star PTA invites students to participate in the National PTA Reflections Program. This year’s theme is “The world would be a better place if ...” Students can submit entries in any of the following six categories: literature, visual arts, photography, music, dance, or video/film production. The competition is judged primarily on how well the individual student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme.
Please make sure all entries include the student’s name, teacher's name, and room number on the BACK of the entry. National PTA does not limit the number of entries a student may submit. All completed entries should be turned in to the Reflections Box in the front office by Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Click HERE for the rules and forms for each category. For questions or more information please contact Jayshree Tailor.
Parent Volunteer Training
Parent Volunteer Training Workshops will be offered at the conclusion of all PTA meetings throughout the year. The PTA meeting schedule is as follows:

The PTA Launch Program (Learning and Understanding New Challenges) is an after school program now open to students in 2nd - 5th grade. The Launch Program is committed to offering various programs which enhance a child's critical and creative thinking, concentration, self-discipline, and accurate decision making. Contact Linda Walck with questions. Click here to find out more and to register. For information on need-based scholarships, please contact Karin Jakubowski
The PTA Bylaws have been updated for approval at the December 9th PTA meeting. Please contact Julie Alvarez with any questions or comments
Send a SMILE
The North Star Express is now up and running!
This is an internal postal system at our school. Parents can write letters to their children and drop them in the mailbox located at the entrance of our school office. A binder with supplies and further instructions is located in the school entryway. Our 3rd graders, along with parent volunteers, act as our postal staff. Volunteer here.
Mrs. Minchini needs help checking books in and out, helping children find books, shelving books, doing inventory and helping organize the library. Sign Up here. You must complete the school's mandatory parent volunteer training at a PTA meeting prior to volunteering at the library.

Credit Card Donations to PTA
In order to reduce overhead costs, the PTA is switching to using Network for Good exclusively for credit card gifts. Set up your account here, and you can make gifts to the PTA online all year long.
PTA MEETING DECEMBER 9
Join us on Tuesday December 9 at 9:15 AM (scheduled for parents that can't make our evening meetings). In addition to reviewing and voting on amended bylaws, we'll have a presentation from Christiana Care's ThinkFirst injury-prevention program. ThinkFirst's information booth at last year's Family Fitness Night was a big hit with North Star students.
